Questions About Our Summer Camps?
There are two camps, one for 8-12-year-olds and one for 12-15-year-olds. Each camp is five days long, from 9-5, and will be held at the UC Denver Writing Center on the Auraria Campus. Applications are now available. You may download them from the website.
We begin each day with a short writing exercise, then go on a local field trip for the middle of the day. We return and do a few more writing activities, as well as work on a week-long writing project. Then MDPL creates a real book from their writings, truly published and available on our website and on Amazon.com. The book is free to participants.
The camp is free; we are committed to providing this experience to whomever wants to come, not just those who can pay. The deposit will be fully refundable (with complete attendance) or can be donated to our organization to help with book costs, etc.
The kids last year had a great time and many are returning. We only have space in each age-group for 13 students, so we are selecting students based on a short essay (written completely by them) about why they would like to come to a writing camp. IT IS NOT A COMPETITION! We want to stress that the camp is for kids who like to write, not kids who just need to practice writing. They don't have to be great writers, but they have to like spending a lot of time writing. :)
If you would like to see one of our books from last year, you can find it at: Amazon.com. We also sell books at a reduced price on our website.
